Sabine Carey is presenting the paper 'Preparing for repression: how media constraints affect the escalation of repression', co-authored with Belén González (University of Mannheim) and Neil Mitchell (University College London) at Heidelberg University. The presentation takes place as part of the conference The International Dimension of Vertical Threats and Regime Security in Authoritarian Regimes at the Institute of Political Science, 16-17 February 2017.

Sabine Carey to give Keynote Lecture

Sabine Carey will give a public keynote lecture on "The Political Economy of State Violence" at the international conference "The Political Economy of Democracy and Dictatorship". This conference is organised by Thomas Apolte, University of Münster, Mario Gilli, Bocconi University Milan and Yuan Li, University of Duisburg-Essen and held at the University of Münster, 22-24 February 2017. Sabine Carey contributes to the "Mentoring and Training Programm"

Sabine Carey is speaking on publishing in peer-reviewed journals at a training programme for female junior scholars, organised by the "Mentoring und Training Programm" of the Landeskonferenz der Gleichstellungsbeauftragten an den Wissenschaftlichen Hochschulen Baden-Württembergs. The event takes place at the University of Mannheim on October 24, 2016.

Sabine Carey at conference on "The political economy of state repression"

Sabine Carey participates in the conference on "The political economy of state repression" at Princeton University, October 21-22, 2016. The conference is organized by Laia Balcells (Duke University) and Carles Boix (Princeton University). She will present the joint project with Anita Gohdes on institutional determinants of journalist killings. 

Sabine Carey honorary guest at Science Slam

On 2 October 2016 Sabine Carey opened the Science Slam in Mannheim. She talked about why so many journalists are killed in democracies, based on a project with Anita Gohdes .

Sabine Carey giving a talk at the Meeting of DAAD-Scholarship Holders

Sabine Carey will be giving a talk on “Why Governments Use Militias in their Own Countries” at the Meeting of Scholarship Holders of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), on the 9th of May 2015. The talk is part of the DAAD meeting “Wachsende Weltbevölkerung und demographischer Wandel – Herausforderungen für Wirtschaft, Politik und Gesellschaft”, which will take place from the 8th to the 10th of May 2015 at the University of Mannheim.
